The springs at Crystal River are under attack from an unwanted algae.
An invasive algae known as Lyngbya has begun to clog the freshwater rivers along the west coast of Florida, resulting in a massive loss of natural grasses as a vital source of food for local fish and manatees. Scientist and activist have obtained a grant from the state of Florida to begin to restore the headwaters of Crystal River known as Kings Bay.
